Make jigs for everything.  I've made a circular saw jig for hand-holds, box-building jig (look ma, no hands), frame-making jig etc.  Even if a jig takes 2 hours to make, it makes future assembly a pleasure.

Use clear inner covers.  Being able to see what the bees are doing inside the box (winter and summer) with little disturbance is wonderful.  You can also look for mites on the bees when they are walking around upside down.
