Hi All

I recently got given a present from an old lady who once kept
bees. She gave me thirty sheets of wax foundation.

On closer inspection I saw that the cells were 5.0mm accross. The wax
had gone white and was very brittle. I attached it to frames, and
then placed it into a single that I made into a double just by moving
five frames up into the second brood box and leaving five down, then
placing foundation between and feedinng sugar. Within a week (and
6kg's of sugar later) the combs were drawn.

Naughty bees: they drew old comb (25 years old) that was the wrong
size (our bees only draw 4.8 -4.9 comb reportedly). And what is more
there are now 10 frames of big bees that will be hatching around
about now and in the nnext few weeks!!

Keep well
