I heartily agree!  I tell my beginners to always treat bees as you would pit
bull dogs--enjoy them while they are sweet, but learn to watch for their
ears going back!

An experienced beekeeper recognizes sudden defensiveness in a colony, and
immediately moves away, whereas a novice doesn't respond quickly enough to
avoid getting hit full force, and in the pain and confusion, can exacerbate
the situation.

I always keep full protective gear in the truck just in case.
