With cells, you don't need to wait for a queenless  hive. Put a piece of foil
round it as a protector (I'm not sure this is really  necessary, but it does
no harm), and stick it between to frames. Most of the  time the bees will
supersede the old queen, at least with my strain, and if they  don't, they
probably know best.
