There was other info to me and I deleted that part.
I did contact the makers of this but they never replied obviously since they
were in negotiations with Bayer.
So what's the difference anyways. When using formic acid the process
involves fumes and there is definately a round of brood loss ,As a matter of
fact the objective of the new proposed gel quickstips is to put formic under
the cappings to hit the mites especially the male so don't think that young
brood isn't affected - it's a trade off .Also this process( go to Exosect
website fyi) is less invasive and if you look at how it is initiated, the
bees have to walk over it at the hive entrance, themselves being charged
electrostatically and the waxparticles with thymol would adhere and through
contact and cleansing the mite would supposedly as with formic die or drop
off the bee. Obviously screened bottom boards would be necessary .
I see this as just another tool in IPM being able to rotate treatments. Here
in Canada Apivar has been around for a couple of years and no doubt as with
other treatments, it's only a matter of time before resistance. IPM is
where it's at , control mites and nosema and the bees can live on.
