>>How can one differenciate them in the field?

I did not realize it but apparently canola is a genetic variation of B. napus with low levels of the natural rapeseed toxins glucosinolate and erucic acid. Canola was derived from rape in Saskatchewan, Canada. Canola oil is considered nutritionally much more beneficial to humans than most other plant oils (peanut, sunflower, corn).

>>Most give lots of pollen, do not know about its quality.

The autumn planted types start blooming in April in Europe and are considered excellent building up colonies. The pollen yield is 100-150kg per 1 ha. I'd think the pollen, as with most Brassicas, should be high value.

>>Here people talk about Canola and Raps, but mainly between autum or spring
planting.

The spring planting type is considered to yield 60% less nectar. No doubt there differences bet. varieties.
