I usually only keep around ten or so hives but I pick up swarms this way
every year.  There is a commercial holding yard a couple miles down the
road and quite a few blueberries a few more miles out.  This is where I
assume most of them come from.  I have a 'bee gum' tree I got from a tree
service four years back I mounted a hive on top of (they didn't survive
since I got them over a warm Thanksgiving in Michigan and the top of the
nest was cut through).  I have caught 5 swarms in the tree in four years (I
usually draw them into the top hive and move them) in addition to the
others I lost count of over the years in the apiary.  This year though I've
had one in the "bee gum" 4 out of one tree all at the same time, one from a
barn, and one that moved into empty equipment.
