Here's the calculation behind the 1.3 square meters of surface area on the 4 sides and top and bottom of a double deep, assuming the exterior dimensions of a deep hive body of 19 7/8" x 16 1/4" x 9 5/8", and ignoring nuances like the thickness of the inner cover, overhang of the outer cover, etc.:
19.875 x (9.625 x 2) x 2 = 765 square inches for the two sides
+16.25 x (9.625 x 2) x 2 = 626 square inches for the front and back
+19.875 x 16.25 x 2 = 646 square inches for the top and bottom
=2037 square inches, then divided by 1550 square inches per square meter = 1.3 square meters
Note that 1550 = 39.37 inches per meter, squared

Here's the calculation behind the 288,000 minutes in ~200 days from the beginning of October to the middle of April:
200 days x 24 hours/day x 60 minutes/hour = 288,000 minutes

John
