The influence of the veterinary preparation 'Starovit' (produced by
'Primavet-Sofia' Ltd) added to the sugar solution (1:1) in a dose of 5.0 g /
l and applied during the spring supplementary feeding on the productive
characteristics of the bee families (strength, quantity of the stamped
working bee brood, live weight of the bee queens, production of honey) was
studied. Five supplementary feedings for a 5-day period were applied with a
starting date of May 02, 2005. The bee families of the control group
received pure sugar solution (1:1) and those of the experimental group ЁC
with Starovit as an additive. Each family was provided 0.5 l sugar syrup per
supplemented feeding. It was found that the application of the preparation
Starovit in the shown doses and frequency of supplemented feeding influenced
the traits positively. The positive influence was observed not during the
supplementation period as well as during the next periods of the development
of the bee families. During the supplementary feeding period (May 02 ЁC June
07) the amount of the brood in the bee families which received Starovit
increased significantly with 76.0%. The live weight of the bee queens of
these families was with 4.23% higher compared to the control. At the end of
the apiary season the bee families supplementary fed in May with Starovit
were with significantly higher values of the traits strength (§І ЎЬ 0.05),
amount of sealed brood (§І ЎЬ 0.01) and live weight of the bee queens (§І ЎЬ
0.01) compared to these which received only pure sugar syrup. The total
amount of honey obtained per family fed with Starovit in the beginning of
the bee season was with 21.63% higher (§І ЎЬ 0.05) compared to the control
group
