Not entirely true Dave. A member of our bee club up here in
Massachusetts, now deceased, did make some serious attempts
to hive bumbles with the intent of seeing if he could migrate them
around to local cranberry bogs. I understand that bumbles are
superior pollinators vis-a-vis honey bees.
At any rate, his experiment did not work because his bumbles
didn't like being moved about and would abandon his bumble
hive.
I "think" that there has been some serious attempts along the
same lines elsewhere in the past. Anyone know any more
about this ?
