It is very possible to be a successful hobbyist beekeeper these days.  What is
important is to keep current on mites and their treatments.  A beekeeper, to
be successful, should belong to a local and a state beekeeping organization
and should be subscribing to  one or all of the beekeeping journals.  If a
beekeeper is not willing to do this, then his bees will be lost.
