Subject: Apistan use
You really ought to split the two hive bodies to determine where
the brood chamber is, in order to place the strips on either side
of it (see apistan directions). If the chamber is predominantly on
the top, but two strips there, if on the bottom...and so on. Some
have written that they actually use four strips on colonies kept in
two hive bodies, or conceivably if the brood chamber is centered
between the two.
The need to split the two is also important for those beekeepers
who rotate the boxes in the Spring to keep the queen and the brood
chamber down low (the theory being it makes her less likely to
move up into the honey supers in the later part of the spring.
