Dear Ron,
I have a copper[Burco boiler] full of boiling water plus 1 box[1kg]
household washing soda, using long rubber gloves, imerse 6-8 super frames at a
time, swish arround several times, reverse and repeat,as long as the water
keeps boiling this will remove all the wax and propolis from the groves
and under the top wedge, periodically the gunge needs to skimmed from the
surface of the water,I then place the frames in an old tin bath and hose
them down to remove surface soda, the frames are ready to use,no further
scraping need,I can do about 20 supers worth in an afternoon,it takes
nearly as long to get the water boiling. Some beekeepers in the UK use
caustic soda, not nice stuff to use.
Regards Andy.
