Paul,
Way back when I first started keeping bees I used the microwave to soften the
wax on frames. It worked but I had to be very careful and keep the zaps short
because you have nails in the frames and they would localize heat. Ended up
with soften wax and also "soft" joints where the frames were nailed. So that
ended that.
My guess is that you would end up with burning frames if you tried to acheive
the temperatures needed to kill AFB spores. Plus, it is very labor intensive
to zap frame by frame by frame. If you built a large microwave to take the
boxes too, then, my guess is, the problem with localized heating would be
overwhelming.
