Hi All
On the topic of bee space and burr comb, I just thought I would throw
in the topic of entrance propilis.
I have a place in a very deep valley in some mountains about an hours
drive from where I live where time means the bees are not visited
much. After winter I had a look at them and found that every frame
had been stuck to the bottom by a layer of propilis that extended
almost to the back of the hive and actually added a second floor to
the hive. Closer inspection showed that the bottom of the hive boards
had been chewed up by something that made big holes and I geuss the
bees did not like the draughts.
But that definitely beats burr comb for cleaning up. Got almost a
kilo (2ish pounds) per hive that I plan to turn into incense as is is
wild gathered and smells of the hills.
Does propilis obey bee space???
Keep well
Garth
