Re: "Some time ago, there was a series of messages on Honey Bee Trivia,
such as...:" and "My ISP was offline for a couple of days and I missed the
issue of the digest that covered 16 February to 17 February. Could some
sweet, kind listmember email me a copy?? I'd be very, very grate-
ful!!"...
I shudder to think that at least someone will very likely respond *to the
list* in each case. In one case, we will be flooded again with the
fanciful half-truths, misinformation and generalities that pass as 'bee
trivia', (ugh!) and in the other someone will very likely decide to send
a digest of two whole day's posts to the list thinking that this is what
is required.
At risk of being even more repetitive than usual: There are simple, easy
methods of requesting material already discussed -- from the LISTSERV.
Instructions for accomplishing either of these simple and rewarding
tasks are appended for easy reference to almost evey post I send.

*Please, please, please* (begging here), people, let's use the logs and
the search methods to do our research before going blythely to the list.
A good LISTSERV search or two will provide fascinating reading for hours
-- and answer questions you've forgotten you ever had.
Sometimes a fresh post will get new information, but often will only get a
few responses from those who have nothing better to do or are new to the
list and don't realize that it has been chewed over again and again --
and chewed *very* well at that.
I have nothing against asking a question on BEE-L over again and again --
especially if it hasn't been answered well in the past or if circumstances
have changed. I'd just like to see some indication that a search has been
made in the logs that comprise our 'FAQ' and that the search has returned
a less than satisfactory amount of information, or that the current
question re-phrases the question in a new way, with a new twist.
FWIW, Aaron has had to increase the maximum posts allowed per day
because the list has been getting put on hold due to volume. That is a
temporary fix, but I just know that when the volume gets to be
consistently over 50 per day, many are going to throw in the towel.
I know myself that I can't take it much longer; I live in the perpetual
hope that the glut of posts is just a temporary thing until the bees get
to working in earnest and beekeepers can do real bee work. I know I am
getting busy and pretty excited about the new year. We don't hear as
much from California or the South as we used to, so that is a hopeful
sign :) I just bought another Swinger and some more bees, so I know I'm
going to be too busy with real bees to spend as much time here. I
imagine other Northerners are getting set to get out in earnest.
In the meantime, I hope we can get the inessential volume down a bit
without losing any of the high quality discussion that has passed over the
list in recent weeks and months. I also hope we can all ask the LISTSERV
*first* if we have a question, then ask the list if the logs come up
short.
Yours in the spirit of true Grumpiness :)
