Lawrence,
We have quite a few beekeepers in Alaska. The season is, indeed long
enough to produce a honey crop. The problems we have are with
wintering. The winters are so long it is hard to do a good job. It is
not hard to get a colony to survive, but it rarely does nearly as well
as a new package. We keep trying though.
As far as bringing in equipment, that is a no-no. There is a state law
prohibiting the importation of used bekeeping equipment.
