Hello Ted -
I have marked all my queens this year to help me keep track of the original one in each hive.
I used paint specifically for this but most quick drying paints will work. The color is yellow
this year.
Year ending in:
0 or 5 Blue
1 or 6 White
2 or 7 Yellow
3 or 8 Red
4 or 9 Green
I always spray my queens with sugar water just before I release her to help mask the smell
of the paint.

(I think I'm in another zone, it's snowing right now!)
