I did a seminar talk some years ago that started out:
"Avocados are a protogynous dicogamy with synchronous daily
complementarity"
There are Type A varieties and Type B. They are complimentary in the
sense that when one has male flowers open, the other has female.
In NZ it isn't such a big issue, as we get cooler evenings, and the
types are not so strict in their flowering...
