The method you plan is not too good because, even though you provide sticks for the bees to
land on, many will not make it and will drown in the syrup. Inverting a punched covered
bucket is the "normal" way, but as has been already said will result in leakage when the hive
warms up in the morning. The ziplock bag method is the best - I and everyone else reporting
here has had excellent results with it.
