I wrote a few months ago requesting suggestions for an interactive bee
exhibit. Thank you for all the replies I received. I am hoping that
some of you can help me once again. Does anyone know how I can find a
natural honeybee hive that could be put on display? I personally have
only seen them in pictures, and I assume that children are most familiar
with the ones from which Pooh Bear thieves or those they might see in
Honeycomb commercials. The opposition between natural and human-made
hives would be interesting and educational.
I was also wondering if someone might have some old beekeeping gear that
they might be willing to donate to the children's museum. Children love
the "costumes" and "toys" of adults. Although letting a child play with
a smoker might not be the wisest choice of action, I think they would be
enchanted with the opportunity to put on a beekeeper's gloves or netted
head gear (pretreated for lice, of course). However, my knowledge and
experience remain relatively limited, so I would appreciate any suggestions
(or objections). I ask for a charitable contribution, because the
Gulf Coast World of Science is a non-profit organization with limited
funds. Thank-you for your attention.
Sincerely,
