Gentlepeople:
As I looked through my hives this past weekend and noted the
conditions of the stores, a question occured to me that I thought I
would pose to you. The genesis of the question was the observation
that I still have a super and 1/2 (6 5/8 supers each) full of honey o
on each hive (I have two.) that the cluster hasn't yet moved up into.
Our temperatures for the past three to four weeks have been in the low
20's(F). This week temperatures got into the 40s(F) and even touched
60 (F) (Unusual for Southwestern Ohio, although not unheard of.)
I wondered if, when the bees break cluster during this warming
period, they would move up into the supers, take honey out of those
stores and move it down closer to the brood nest.
I don't recall reading anything about this. I do recall reading
that the cluster would move up into the stores but would they
rearrange the stores when given the opportunity?
