  I think the light messes them up.  Normally they are in a dark hive, with
the only light coming in the entrance.  With an observation hive, they keep
trying to rise to the room lighting. Even when covered part of the time, as
soon as the cover was removed, they started balling up at the top.  With a
top entrance, this doesn't seem to be a problem.
