The notion that queens should last longer benefits only one part of the industry- the beekeeper. It's also fair to ask if the industry can provide anything different. Package bees and queen suppliers are part of a mature business with high demand, and the likelihood that they are ready to change their business model to breed fewer but long-lived fecund queens seems naive.
