As we have departed from the subject of bees completely, I don't think it inappropriate to mention two points:
1) That humans have created far more suitable cavities for bees than nature ever did. Honey bees just love the spaces created by 12-inch on center 2" x 8" and 2" x 6" floor joists, the cavities often found in external walls built with 2x4s where the insulation batts have sagged or fallen down completely.
2) That humans have created medicine, and that means that some "diseases" can enhance survival/reproduction odds for what were formerly doomed humans over that of a human born with no "defects" at all. One well-known example is that generic anemia and Sickle-cell-trait (but not sickle-cell anemia) protect the victim from malaria, and now that we can treat both anemia and sickle-cell anemia, yet malaria is still a leading cause of fatal disease (at least in Africa), there is little "downside" to the trait.
See the book "Survival of the Sickest" by Sharon Moalem, very technical at times, but not over my medically-uninformed head, so certainly not over anyone else's.
