> "Some 75% of our food crops and nearly 90% of wild flowering plants depend, to some extent, upon animal pollination, particularly by insects"

This is deceptive at the very least. The figures I have seen range from 60-80%, but they never say whether that is a percent of the number of species or the quantity of plants. The USDA states

> Three-fourths of the world's flowering plants and about 35 percent of the world's food crops depend on animal pollinators to reproduce.

These seems more realistic, considering the bulk of our food crops are grains and others that do not require animal pollination.
