>Hornets are not a type of wasp.
I suspect that most of the world would disagree (do we need a poll?). My understanding is that hornets are the largest members of the wasp family. Certainly every book that I own that mentions hornets say they are wasps.
>The Vespidae family is divided into the subfamilies Vespinae (yellow jackets and hornets) and Polistinae (wasps).
Is 'yellow jackets' an American term - never heard anyone else call them that.
