Take the car to a mechanic, and have them take an oil sample and a water sample, and he'll show you the oil in the water and the water in the oil, so you can get your refund.
Then replace the head gasket. It'll take your son a day or so - replace the timing belt while you are in there. Lots of videos and how-tos out there, and there's no special tools required.
Sure, Hondas are as tolerant of mistreatment verging on outright abuse as a bee colony, but some things are fatal, and rolling dice on the inevitable future failure of the "seal" is not wise.
