The first 20 years of my beekeeping adventure I used Double Deeps with 20 frames. The next 10 years I used a single deep with 10 frames, then the last 10 years I ran my singles with nine frames. I have found that if the cluster fills 5-6 seams at wrapping time(usually late Nov/early Dec) survival is almost guaranteed.
