Ruttner (1988) wrote of the "C lineage":
> The bees of the central Mediterranean and its "back yard" are well separated from the oriental group, as they are from the west European races. The taxonomic units within the group have much in common: medium to tall size, relatively long proboscis, short hair, relatively high cubital index, and predominantly dark color (except for A. m. ligustica, which was called the "blond cousin" of carnica).
