Thanks for all the great suggestions. I will be looking at the different tools. Just in my quick google search, it's amazing what is out there now. I can't remember which classic book talked about setting up the bee yard to easily run a scythe between the rows, but I think I'll go for power at this point. Glad that my work will be below shoulder height and that I don't need to have vibrating blades at the end of a long pole.
I do have landscape cloth pinned down for the apiary footprint, but the runners keep trying to move in, and the rest of the yard needs serious management. Goats would be fun, but the yard that needs the most upkeep wouldn't work with a goat. Another farm rotates their sheep in front of my hives and they really do a nice job on the growth. The sheep are fun company too.
Glad to hear that cordless batteries have improved over time. I guess my cordless drill should be updated too. I almost let the smoke out creaming honey.
