What I discovered about Benadryl is that although the label suggests it may make a person drowsy I never felt drowsy, but on a number of occasions found I was not as observant as I thought I was and my reflex responses when suddenly challenged when driving could have been dangerous.   

This effect was still observable the next morning when taken at night, so beware: even though you may feel wide awake,  after taking diphenhydramine your reactions may be 'off'.
