We find the most popular place for a bumble nest is under a shed.

We have also had them need under hives, in outdoor cupboards - particularly where old cloth item have been thrown, in compost heaps or compost bins, mouse and vole holes (we have plenty of those) and in bird boxes. They also seem to like an old sheet of corrugated iron laid on rough ground, or will nest under a dustbin lid if there is access.
We should also remember those that ones above ground, so rough grassland with moss will suit them very well.

The Tree Bumble Bee (a recent invader from Europe) favours two locations in particular - bird boxes and under the eaves of houses, particularly on a corner where the males came be seem swirling madly around when new queens are being produced - we get many swarm calls for those!

Best wishes
