I must disagree. There is nothing to "believe in" regarding the scientific
method -- it is only a method for the logical testing of hypotheses.
Exemplified by Thomas Huxley's famous quote: “The great tragedy of science
– the slaying of a beautiful hypothesis by an ugly fact.”
My point is, there are only tentatively widely-agreed upon explanatory
*theories* in science for phenomena that we observe. resulting from the
objective testing of proposed *hypotheses*.
Some people may choose to "believe" a theory, but scientists accept them
only for what they are -- the best currently tested explanatory
hypotheses.
Unlike as with religion or politics, any theory can be challenged at any
time, and scientists then look to see whether presented evidence (ugly
facts) indicate that a theory has flaws.
