Hi All
I have attended Apimondia99 in Vancouver, Apimondia 05 in Dublin Ireland, & Apimondia19 in Montreal. As far as people you meet, My Wife and I were walking from our hotel near Stanley Park in Vancouver when I saw Peter Kevan of U of Guelph who happened to be staying in the same hotel and joined him for breakfast. The next day he brought along Ernesto Gusman from Mexico who, unknown to me, was to become the head of the honey bee program at Guelph. In Dublin a Bee-L get together was arranged at a Pub nearby with many friends with known names whom I had not yet met. I had lunch several days at the same pub with several Bee-Lers including Dave Cushman. In Montreal Anne arranged a dinner get-together in Chinatown where I shared a table with Etienne & Randy. There is no problem in meeting people at Apimondia.
As far as presentations are concerned, the problem is not finding one that you wish to attend, but choosing one of several. The poster presentations are very interesting and vary from fantastic to weird. Most of the poster authors are nearby eager to discuss their work.
