No argument on balance - simply pointing out that this is a legitimate theory of what is going on, but I am not aware of much research to-date that supports the theory.
There does however appear to be some research suggesting that mite populations between resistant and non-resistant (or possibly non-treated and treated stocks) are different - why appears to remain a mystery begging for more research.
