Going the other direction, I visited Darwin's house. They have a database
of the books in his library, and The Hive and the Honeybee was not among
them. However he received a letter in which the correspondent refers to
getting "Langstroths" so he was familiar with the Langstroth hive if not
LLL's work.
Incidentally, don't forget that Oct 30 is the 172nd anniversary of the
invention of the Langstroth hive.
