Lately, we are rejecting more than a few posts that have the entire previous message attached and sometimes a whole series of messages. These messages would have been approved instantly if only the writer knew the rules and had trimmed or deleted the quotes.
If you did not remove ALL of the previous message(s) or any attribution lines your post will be rejected and without any comment. Why don't the moderators edit or send a rejection notice? Because, as often as not the response to a polite request to clean up the message and re-post is rude.
Here is the rule regarding quotes:
A line or two of quotes is permissible in some cases but otherwise messages with quotes are rejected.
Any attribution line is cause for rejection and if the email is so personal that someone has to be named, perhaps the email should be sent direct to that person as a private email not sent to the ~1000 addresses on the list.
We expect people to know the rules and appreciate those who follow them. We were allowing some leeway, but are now enforcing the rule to make moderation easier. It is yes or no.
Contrary to what some may wish, moderators do not read every word of every post and marvel at the wit and wisdom of the writers. Often we are very busy and just screen for obvious formatting errors, malice, or trickery and go thumbs up or thumbs down.
As several members recently pointed out, BEE-L is a round table discussion and people are expected to flow the flow of discussion or read back on the thread and catch up, and not burden the rest and fill the archives with quotes of previous material.
To catch up on what has been said, browse our copious archives going back decades, or to change your delivery options, simply visit https://www.bee-l.org and follow the links.
