My experience is very similar to BernieBees.  It takes some management to persuade the bees to use the Flow frames.  I've done the split brood chamber trick too.  One oddity was that the bees left dome-shaped space for the queen to lay, but then subsequently backfilled it.  See the tinyURL below. I've never seen a queen lay in a Flow frame since day one.
