In warm weather, the period is closer to 19.5-20 days for Europeans.
But it's not about total development time -- it's a matter of the duration
of the postcapping duration period.
Allsopp found that shorter postcapping duration of capensis was enough to
give it an advantage against varroa over scutellata.
As far as mite hyper-reproduction after treatment, I've never noticed it.
