This is an important question to answer, since we've long assumed that *Apis
dorsata* was the native host.
Could it be that tropi was originally only an opportunistic parasite
of *dorsata,
*with perhaps *Apis cerana *being a reproductive host, keeping the mite in
check as a minor parasite?
