While it does serve the interest of brevity to shorten quotes, an out-of-context snippet can be very misleading, as it apparently was in this case. When quoting, a citation helps, and rather than a paper title and a journal name, a DOI is much more useful, as it is invariably a URL when appended to "https://doi.org" (so DOIs listed in a journal or article like "DOI: 10.1016/S0965-1748(03)00068-7" become the working link https://doi.org/10.1016/S0965-1748(03)00068-7 .

It would be very rare for any current legit paper to not have a DOI, so this can be a good QA check as to the legitimacy of a statement presented as (a) refereed by peers, (b) published in a legit journal, and (c) recent enough work to be relevant to modern beekeeping. Moderators could insist on this, and make the world just a tiny bit brighter in the process, as most all papers would be a click away, as the trend toward open access to government-funded work is progressing rapidly. (See https://researchguides.uic.edu/c.php?g=252224&p=2745823 for the details on US work)

Speaking for those who read papers (or at least look at the methodology section and the statistical treatments employed) before commenting, please paste in the DOI!

Despite the longer quote and the cite to the actual paper, I am no closer to being convinced of the claim than I was before. "Sequence Whole Genomes, or Go Home" seems to be an appropriate bumper sticker or TL:DR here. But it could well be that I simply do not understand this arcane area well enough, and the sodium channels have been where the action tends to be with these chemicals, so I will consult with Dr. Zach, who does exquisite work up at MSU, and was a trailblazing pioneer in the field of using digital photography to photograph bees. He bought roughly one new camera per month for years, and is a far better photographer than most.

Some DOIs are not as valuable as others, see
https://doi.org/10.1126/science.adi0098
A bunch of journals known to "publish anything mailed in with a large check" lost their "impact factors", so one might hope that they would also lose their use of doi.org, but no such luck. These scandals have no impact on us, there's no incentive for outright fraud in the field of entomology, as there's little to no money, just lots of love.
