Not "loose translation" but "lost in translation" .
My last name is Góral where the sound 'ó' is like 'oo' in English
'good'. But it was lost in translation once I moved outside Poland and I
am now Goral not Gooraal.
BTW : 'križancev' would translate int Polish as 'krzyżówka' and it
looks and sounds similar to me.
