How to know or calculate the carrying capacity of a given área? Are there
studies done about the subject?
The concept have been introduced to the brand new Beekeeping Law of Chile
https://www.bcn.cl/leychile/navegar?idNorma=1182623&tipoVersion=0 but there
are no current studies here about the subject.
e) Beekeeping load: it is the relationship between the number of hives and
the area or melliferous delimited foraging zone in a certain time, ensuring
the sustainability of the beekeeping activity.
TITLE IV Movement and transhumance of hives
Article 14.- In order to protect and promote the sustainable development of
beekeeping, as well as to safeguard the health and well-being of bees, any
person who mobilizes hives or transhumance in the national territory must
have a system updated and permanent internal control, in which you must
record any movement or transhumance that you carry out. Said system must be
available when the competent authority requires it. By resolution of the
Agricultural and Livestock Service, the requirements that the internal
control system must contain will be established. Likewise, considering the
objectives indicated in the preceding paragraph, the Ministry of
Agriculture will establish, through a regulation, the necessary conditions
to regulate transhumance. These conditions will be determined based on the
following matters: distance between apiaries, depending on the category of
beekeeping activity that is carried out; sanitary measures ordered by the
authority in accordance with article 10 of this law; protection of organic
bee production; protection of development zones and beekeeping genetic
selection, and the beekeeping load in those localities or certain zones for
which there are technical studies supported by scientific evidence.
