The paper in question (2022) states: 
> The average median lifespan of caged bees in the 1970’s was 34.3 days

Recent work by Jay Evans (2009) states: 
> we have carried out several hundred trials with adult bees on sugar water alone, with a median survival of 36 days, and maximum of 60+ days
