An important point. Here the predominate early pollen sources are from catkin bearing trees. Cottonwood, alder, filbert, and birches and it comes in in copious quantity. Nun of witch produce any significant nectar. So a microscopic examination of spring honey may lead a person to conclude that they are looking at cottonwood honey. A taste test will tell an experienced beekeeper that it is clearly black hawthorn.
