>Any working solutions that people have come up with to keep trees & bushes from taking over meadows?

We have problems with ash, hawthorn and blackthorn seeding.  I use a scythe mower once a year (September) - it cuts through brambles and small (current year) saplings with no effort - goes anywhere (our 'meadow' is on a 14º slope).  I then rake off the mowings.
