I’m in trouble again. Every couple years I post on my neighborhood social media something about not killing dandelions. It’s a slow and indirect attempt to educate suburbia about more thoughtful pesticide use. I usually get violently attacked. Dandelions I guess are a deep trigger.

This year I posted a nice shot of my bees bringing in dandelion pollen and said thanks to my neighbors who don’t use weed
 and feed. Seemed tame enough.

But, as usual, , I stirred up the anti-dandelion lobby. They are a virulent bunch. News to me, all over the interwebs is info on how dandelions are really junk food for bees owing to their amino acid profile, and we’d be doing bees a favor by eliminating dandelions. Everyone seems to know this now. The A-DL has been hard at work.

I need some real facts, not about amino acids per se, I’ve got that covered, but about dandelions and honey production and bees. All I have is what I’ve heard reading bee stuff. The anti-dandelion crowd needs real research. Only that will make them sheath their fangs. Is there any? Or am I going to be thrown to the mob?

Yours for pollen,
Megan Hughes
