> I started in fancy pound jars, no drip lids, designed labels. Tried to
make it very high end. Did ok. Whenever someone asked for a jar, when I
gave it to them they would often get a surprised look on their face,
followed by a "Oh, I just thought it would be in a Mason jar." I fought it
for a while. Eventually I gave in. In addition to fancy pound jars, I offer
mason jars (quart and pint) with a basic sticker on top. Mason jars outsell
pounds by several multiples. And they're willing to pay more per pound for
the Mason jar than the pound jar. I think if I put masking tape on the
ourside of the jar and wrote "HONEY" with a sharpie rather than have a
basic sticker on top, I'd sell even more. Go figure.
My customers can get honey with nice labels anywhere. They want rustic.
They want to put an old fasioned mason jar on the table and brag to their
friends about getting it direct from the beekeeper. I oblige.
Know your market. Know your customers. Put a few different sytles out there
and see one sells faster. You may be surprised.
