Here's my quandary: I like to leave two full medium supers for each hive to overwinter. I would also like to be able to treat with OA in December, when I'm fairly sure there is no brood.
If I remove the full supers two months in advance (i.e.: now), I am concerned with the honey granulating and not being accessible to the bees when I re-install after treatment. I know there is a two week minimum wait to re-install.
My experience is admittedly limited. The only viable option I come up with is to have a fair weather window in December, which would allow me to triangle board each hive and remove the supers, treat ASAP, and reinstall at least two weeks later. That's a lot to hope for weather-wise in a Northeast December.
All feedback is appreciated! Even if it is that I'm nuts.
